Life Lesson 118: Do what you can to Nurture your Relationship

Dear Readers,

I hope that you all had a rewarding day. My day went well because I was able to see the online layout of my first interview with Promoting Purpose Magazine. Link In any event, I was thinking about relationships and what it takes to maintain a successful relationship. Many people believe that relationships are very easy to maintain but in all honesty, it takes hard work on both sides so that the relationship will be a benefit to both people. Today, I will discuss the ways that you can nurture your relationship with your partner.

Let's begin.......

You can nurture your relationship by being honest about your feelings. Too often, people hide their feelings from one another and then they wonder why their needs are not being met. In a relationship, you need to be upfront on how you feel so that your partner can learn more about what you do and do not like. Learn to embrace yourself and the fact that you have real feelings. You are a person and so is your partner. Be willing to be open with your partner so that you can get what you need out of your relationship.

You can nurture your relationship by communicating with your partner. Many people believe that communication involves shouting and cursing at the other person. Well, this is not effective communication. You will not be able to get the other person to understand you if you always have to elevate your tone to be heard. No one wants to be mistreated in a relationship. You need to find a constructive way to express yourself to your partner. Learn to calm down and speak softly so that you can communicate effectively with your partner.

You can nurture your relationship by remembering the things that you did when you met your partner. Some people went to the movies and they laughed at the characters on the screen. Other people may have met in high school or college. No matter what, you must remember how you met your partner and what attracted them to you. In remembering these things, you will be able to see that your partner was special then and they are still special now.

All in all, if you want to nurture your relationship, you need to be willing to come outside of your comfort zone so that you can be in tune with your partner. It is up to you to tell your partner your needs, wants, and your concerns. If you do not tell them, they will never know what you need in the relationship. Relationships come down to communication, honesty, and patience. If you want your relationship to work, you need to be willing to work together so that you can have the relationship that you both want.

What it took to get the person is what it will take to keep the person!
